Triangle Table Tennis offers players a wide range of expert coaches with experience in training table tennis skills, techniques, and match strategies.  Triangle’s coaching team provides private and group lessons, as well as camps and clinics. Our coaches are friendly and accessible, and they pride themselves on helping players of all ages and all levels, from beginner to advanced, to have fun while they improve their game.  In addition to the coaches listed below, we often host visiting coaches.  Also, skilled practice partners and dedicated volunteers who enjoy sharing their passion for the sport frequently assist our coaches and students.

  • Brian Pace, Head Coach

    Brian Pace is a native of North Carolina, and grew up in the famed Butterfly Table Tennis Program in Wilson. After just 2 years, Brian was selected to move to Colorado Springs to live and train at the resident program at the Olympic Training Center. Brian accumulated Junior and National Titles before finishing high school. He moved back to the Southern region to continue table tennis by attending Augusta College in Georgia. After 4 years and multiple collegiate titles in Team, Mixed Doubles, and Singles, Brian branched into coaching. He had success with developing his first National Champion at 24 years old. He took a year off to train abroad, and developed another National Champion as soon as he returned to coaching. He then spent the next 4 years training and competing in Europe in the Romanian League. He reached a rating of 2612, which makes him the highest rated player that was raised in the South. He has over 65 Tournament wins, as well as 14 National Championship titles. Since retiring from competition, he has been a full-time coach with a focus on grassroots table tennis and the goal of increasing overall participation in table tennis at all levels. Brian is a USATT National Level Coach, and has had over 17 Elite level coaches during his career that range from National Champion to Olympic Medalists, and he brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as Head Coach at Triangle Table Tennis.

  • Yu Di, Senior/Elite Coach

    Yu Di began his table tennis career in China, where he earned a position on the Liaoning Province Team. In addition to a current USATT rating of over 2500, he has a wealth of competition experience in both China and the United States, including: 2nd Place in Boys Team and 3rd Place in Men's Singles at China Liaoning Province Cadet Table Tennis Championships (2007-2008), 2nd in Men's Doubles in China Liaoning Province Sports Meeting (2010), Singles Champion (1st Place) at Butterfly Atlanta Fall Open (2013), 2nd Place in Singles at Butterfly Atlanta Winter Open (2014), 2nd Place in Friday Open Men's Singles and 4th Place in Giant Round Robin Open Singles at Butterfly Cary Cup Championship (2014). Yu Di has successfully coached nationally ranked Cadet and Junior level athletes while visiting other table tennis centers in the U.S., including a U-10 player ranked at #1 and a U-13 player ranked #6. Yu Di is a certified ITTF Level 1 Coach, and eligible to become a USATT State Coach shortly. He enjoys working with beginning players who are learning the sport as well as advanced players who are preparing for competition.

  • Alec J. Carney, Assistant Center Manager and Senior/Elite Coach

    Alec (AJ) grew up excelling at many sports in Rochester, New York, including both baseball and table tennis. He was a multi-medalist at the AAU Junior Olympics in 1997-2001, earning 2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals. After injuries sidelined him from an invitation to the major leagues as a left-handed baseball pitcher, AJ focused his attention more exclusively on table tennis. AJ trained and traveled to table tennis tournaments across the US, and quickly reached a high level of play with a rating of over 2400. He has been coaching table tennis for the last seven years, and is a USATT Certified Umpire. AJ has completed his certification as an ITTF Level 1 Coach and USATT State Coach.

  • Rachid El Boubou, Senior/Elite Coach

    Rachid grew up in Lebanon, where he competed at the highest level. He trained with the Lebanon Youth National Team and traveled with them to championships throughout Europe and the Middle East. He is the current reigning Lebanon Table Tennis Champion and has won this title 10 years, including 2015 and 2016. In addition to playing table tennis, Rachid has been coaching for more than eight years, including at two universities, the Lebanon Youth National Team, and as an assistant coach in his local club. Rachid also has nine years of experience working as a bank employee at Bank Med in Lebanon. As he moves to North Carolina, he plans to continue playing in tournaments, and currently has a USATT rating of 2495. Rachid loves the sport of table tennis and is excited to be able to coach at Triangle Table Tennis.

  • Gregg Robertshaw, Coach

    Gregg is a USATT Certified State Coach and an ITTF Certified Level 1 Coach, as well as a USATT Certified Club Umpire. He has been a local player in the Cary area since 1993, after playing in Poughkeepsie, NY, for the previous 15 years. His experience in table tennis stretches over 4 decades, starting at age 5 when his dad introduced him to the game, and continuing throughout his school years. Gregg won multiple tournaments, both as a junior and adult player in the north east. In 2010, he was #15 in the country over age 50, and in 2014, he was #16 out of the top 20 players in the country with the most wins. Gregg has been coaching since 2004, and currently coaches both private and group lessons at Triangle Table Tennis.

  • Shengli "Jack" Wu, Coach

    Jack is a favorite coach with many of our young players, and leads popular camp and group lesson sessions as well as private lessons. He has completed the ITTF-PTT Level 1 Coaching certification, and is adept at working with players of all ages who use both shake-hand and pen-hold grips.

  • Joe Windham, Coach and Business Development Manager

    Joe comes to Triangle Table Tennis Club from Kansas City, Missouri. Former President of Kansas City Table Tennis Club in 2015-2016, Joe started playing junior table tennis in 1964, competing out of Kansas City until 1973. Having played in tournaments from California to New York, he attained a national ranking in juniors and in men’s play. The highlight of his table tennis competitive career was training full time for a year with Dan Seemiller at Dell Sweeris’ table tennis club in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dan and Joe trained 4 to 6 hours a day Monday thru Friday, and then would go to tournaments on the weekends in 1974. Joe had an offer to travel and play in Europe, but instead decided to take a reprieve from competitive table tennis. Before enlisting in the Navy in 1975, Joe worked as a table tennis pro in Oklahoma City at a full time club. He is a USATT Umpire and a certified Club Coach. He looks forward to working with the staff at TTTC to develop business and coach table tennis. Joe believes that table tennis is a lifetime sport which can be played competitively and enjoyed recreationally by all ages from juniors to seniors.

  • Tom Gabriel, Center Manager and Coach

    Tom has an ITTF-PTT Level 1 coaching certification, and he's a USATT certified state level coach, a USATT certified umpire, and a USATT certified referee, and is certified by the American Red Cross in First Aid and CPR. In addition, he has experience developing and supervising programs for youth and adults in various settings, including experience as: the Manager of NC Museum of Life and Science Summer Science Camp program, a high school history teacher, a tennis and racquetball instructor, and the organizer of a junior tennis league. While serving as the Manager of an Omega Sports sporting goods retail store in Durham, he helped found the Durham Table Tennis Club, where he ran tournaments and advocated for program enhancements. Tom has a BA in Philosophy, an MAT in Teaching, and a JD.

  • Danny Hill, Coach

    Danny is a USATT Certified Regional Coach, as well as an ITTF Level 1 Coach and USATT Certified Umpire. His experience in table tennis stretches over 3 decades, and includes coaching players across NC and SC, organizing table tennis clubs, organizing USATT sanctioned tournaments, and organizing a six-state, multi-club league. He has also owned and managed a sports club that focused on table tennis and built a junior program that developed two junior players who were ranked in the top 10 in the US in their respective divisions. Danny's skills include an expertise in long pips, and he is adept at coaching players who would like to develop the ability to play with, or against, long pips. Danny coaches in Triangle Table Tennis camps, clinics, and group lessons, and also offers private lessons.

  • Diana Gee, Advisory Board Member and Coach

    Diana represented the United States as a table tennis athlete in two Olympic Games (1988 and 1992). She is also a nine-time National Women’s Double Champion and five-time National Mixed Doubles Champion. Diana was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1985 through 1992, was honored as the USA Table Tennis Sportswoman and Female Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1985, and was the 1990 National Collegiate Singles and Mixed Doubles Champion. She was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009. In addition to being an elite athlete, Diana has continued to give back to her sport and the Olympic Movement. She has represented the U.S. at the International Olympic Academy, worked for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, served as Athlete Liaison for the 1997 U.S. Summer World University Games Delegation, and was an athlete representative for the USOC’s Athlete Advisory Council from 1998-2000. In 2008, she acted as a U.S. Olympic Ambassador for athletes competing in the Olympics in Beijing.   In 2012, Diana volunteered at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Cary, NC, and she continues to do some part time coaching as a USATT Certified Club Coach.
