If you see a Triangle Table Tennis staff member between now and April 3rd, give them a hug. Or some coffee. Or both.
Between now and April 3rd, Triangle Table Tennis is hosting 4 big events, concluding with the 2017 Butterfly Cary Cup Championship. In just a week and half, we are hosting the Over-40 Tour Event, complete with age events and a Giant Round Robin main event. Participation in this event counts towards qualification into the Grand Tour Finals this December, and all registrants must be 40 years old by 12/31/17. After the February tournament, things really start to heat up. From March 23rd – April 2nd, Triangle Table Tennis is hosting 3 huge events. To kick things off, we were lucky enough to be chosen to host the 2017 USATT National Team Trials from Thursday March 23rd – the 26th. These trials will determine who represents the USA at the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany later this year. The trials will bring the best and the brightest from all around the country and will finish up on Sunday.
First thing Monday morning, we start the Spring High Performance Training sessions. This training camp, for players with a USATT of 2000+, will be lead by guest USATT National Team Coach Zhou Xin, as well as Triangle Table Tennis coaches Jishan Liang, Yu Di, and AJ Carney and others depending on enrollments. Players that sign up for the camp and Cary Cup can receive discounts. For more information on the 2017 USATT National Team Trials, click here. Capping off all this exciting play will be the 2017 Butterfly Cary Cup Championship. With a Giant Round Robin expanded to 160 players and over $18,000 in cash and prizes (winner of the main event this year gets $4,500 cash, $500 gift card, and a trophy), this tournament is expected to bring top players from all around. In addition, back by popular demand, we have revived the large cup trophies that helped this tournament get its name. Early enrollment discounts for particular events are available for just one more week. For more information or to register for this tournament, click here.
8 weeks, 4 high-profile events, with many questions left to be answered. Will Bohan Zhang retain his crown? Will Jishan Liang find his way back to the winner’s circle? Will Yijun Feng find a way to get the #1 USA Men’s spot? Only time will tell, but I think we can all agree it will be fun to watch it unfold. To say that all involved are excited about the end of March doesn’t do it justice. Ann Campbell, President of Triangle Table Tennis, really expressed the staff sentiment best when she said “We’re delighted that Triangle Table Tennis, and our sponsors including USATT and Butterfly, can bring these 3 exciting national events, totaling 11 days with the top players in the U.S., for the benefit of local players and spectators.”
